Sweetie‘s back legs have experienced long-term atrophy and is learning how to walk.  Her left front foot is deformed possibly due to inbreeding.  Sweetie is great with other dogs and cats.  A very gentle soul.  Sweetie will be available for
adoption towards the end of the Summer of 2013.

This is Bellator.

Bellator is the first of the neonate/tweenie kittens to arrive at Ferdinand’s Familia & Rescue in 2013.  Bellator is one of thousands of kittens that will be coming into Government Operated Shelters and Privately Run Humane Societies in the next 5-6 months.  Unfortunately, there are not enough rescues and foster parents to commit to nursing young kittens every 2-4 hours for 3-8 weeks.  Please Spay and Neuter your dog, your rabbit, your rat and your cat!  Adopt don’t Shop!  If you can’t Adopt-Foster!  If you can’t Foster make a generous donation to your local rescue.  Thank you!

This is Elle.  While she was on the inside she was called Raya.  Her freedom gave her a new name.  Elle was at the North Central Shelter in Los Angeles.  Carissa Danielle from Texas found the energy to organize Elle’s freedom and second chance at life!  Through the work of many individuals and organizations from Los Angeles to Dallas, Texas, Elle has a chance to live.  She will need a wheelchair; if anyone can donate a wheelchair for a small ShihTzu mix, please contact Carissa at savingbabydaniel@gmail.com  Thank you to Joe, Carissa, Carla at Synergy, Rocky Ridge and Ace of Hearts.  And to all I missed…  GREAT TEAM WORK!

Yukon is a malamute mix.  He is about 8 years of age, neutered and microchipped.  Yukon gets along great with other dogs; he is a social boy.  He will need a yard to play in during the day-don’t let his age fool you, Yukon has lots of energy and loves to be loved.  Yukon’s adoption fee is $125.00.  Please send us a message or call 619.475.8227 if you are interested in adopting Yukon.

Cooper is a brown and white Australian Shepherd.  Coop is about 7 years of age and a little bit overweight-he needs to lose weight.  Coop’s human recently died and Coop ended up in one of San Diego’s Animal Shelters; Ferdinand’s Familia & Rescue stepped up and brought him to our facility.

M&M is safe today because of the work of three people.  Thanks to Stephani, Carla and Janice, Markey Mark is alive today.  M&M is a 10 month old Pit Bull with Scoliosis.  He will need a patient and loving human who is willing to take on the responsibility of a disabled dog.  Markey Mark is a disabled dog who doesn’t know he is disabled.

Helen came to Ferdinand’s Familia & Rescue in the Fall of 2012.  Helen was part of a 90+ seizure of cats from a one bedroom duplex.  Helen was underweight and considered sight-limited, therefore not adoptable.  Janice worked with the Department of Animal Services to secure her release.  Helen was immediately transported to the Spring Valley Vet Clinic where she was diagnosed with blindness.  She also had mites.  The crew at SVVC fixed her right up.  Helen is the first blind cat to come to Ferdinand’s Familia & Rescue.  She is an amazing cat; as you can see her she climbed up on the Recording Secretary’s shoulder (Michael Pratt) from the ground level.  Go Helen!

London is another Senior Star at Ferdinand’s Familia & Rescue!

London is about 8-9 years of age.  He is neutered, microchipped and has his rabies vaccination.  London gets along with other dogs; doesn’t care about cats too much.  London likes to stay outdoors during the day; and loves the indoors for sleepy time.  London’s adoption fee is $100.00.  Please send us a message if you want to meet with London.

Guppy the Teacup Puppy came to Ferdinand’s Familia & Rescue a day after Valentine’s Day.  Guppy is about 7 months of age; he is neutered, microchipped and licensed.  Guppy is also disabled.  His back legs aren’t 100%.  Often walking like the Tin Man from the Wizard of Oz, Guppy’s legs will fall out from under him, however he gets right back up and runs.  Guppy is not in any pain.  He will need someone who is very patient and has at least one dog or one cat in their home.  Guppy’s Adoption Fee is $100.00.

Sally & Harry are a sister/brother pair and just a lovable pair they are…  These two bun-buns are almost 8 months of age, spayed & neutered and waiting for their new home.  They have been around cats and other rabbits, however they like to share their space with just each other.  They are Indoor/Outdoor bun-buns and know how to use a box, but sometimes miss the target.  Sally & Harry’s adoption fee together is $75.00.

Before settling in at his permanent home at the ranch, Janice traveled to a livestock sale and secured the release of a ewe lamb.  Gerald Hines would not be alone at the ranch.  Bessie and Gerald Hines can now be found at the rescue site running around in their secure pen area.

In the middle of March Janice, Carla and Rosie are traveling to Colorado to pick another ewe lamb, a dwarfed Barbados and she will be called Caroline!

Rockin’ Rox!

Say Hello to Rox!

Rox is about 10 years of age.  A rescue from a local San Diego Shelter, Rox is one of many Senior Stars left behind.  Rox is a special needs dog; he has hip dysplasia.  Rox lives Indoors and needs to be walked 3-4 times per day.  Rox gets along with other dogs and cats too!  He loves to talk!  Rox is neutered and microchipped and will be perfect for someone who is retired or works from home.  Rox’s adoption fee is $100.00.

We were hacked and down for over a year. Back up now and better than ever! We’ll soon be adding new features and a way to support us with donations and memberships. Ferdinand’s Familia includes our Rescue Ranch in Imperial Beach and a network of foster homes that helps cats, dogs and bunnies find permanent homes.

The Black Hat Humane Society was founded over 10 years ago by Tamara Martin.  Tamara’s goal?, save as many Rez Dogs as possible.  Tamara and the Black Hat volunteers are doing exceptional work in isolated situations.

Sir Maxwell!

ADOPTED!

This is Maxwell-one of our Senior Stars . . .
Maxwell is a November rescue to Ferdinand’s Familia and with the help of a generous supporter Maxwell was able to receive dental work and neuter surgery.  Maxwell has 3 teeth-one of which is quite apparent in the picture.  He gets along with cats and dogs; however, he does like his own sleeping space.  The majority of Maxwell’s diet is soft food but he can chew kibble.  It appears he was fed table scraps as he looks helplessly to his eating human.  Maxwell is a little face shy and loud-sudden sounds and movements startle him.  He is taking MSM once a day for his hips-AND LOVES TO WALK!

Scooter & Zsanett

Scooter is a super-fantastic Pit Bull Terrier.  After being with Ferdinand’s Familia & Rescue for almost 3 years, his foster mamma adopted him.  Great work!  CONGRATULATIONS SCOOTER!

Zsanett Koppenhaver is a newcomer to Ferdinand’s Familia!  You can usually find Zsanett’s friendly smile and happy personality at most of our adoption events.  Zsanett loves small dogs and kittens spending time grooming, holding and sometimes feeding the little ones.  An avid baker, Zsanett makes the best PupCakes!  Just ask the dogs at Ferdinand’s Familia!

Michael is one of Ferdinand’s Familia’s Officers.  A founding member of Ferdinand’s Familia, Michael is currently the lead horse volunteer.  He spends his extra time training at Undisputed Gym in North Park as well as coaching up and coming competitors.

Carla & Lil' Nugget

Carla is a founder of the Geriatric Compassion Program (GCP) with Ferdinand’s Familia.  Carla works with Southern California Shelters pulling dogs over the age of ten that are scheduled for euthanasia-GIVING THEM A SECOND CHANCE AT LIFE!  Lil’ Nugget (pictured above) was scheduled for euthanasia in January of 2010 and is still running around today.  Though this program has no more than 4-6 dogs-it is a wonderful opportunity to educate people on the benefits and joy of adopting an older animal.  Most dogs that come into GCP are available for adoption.  Please contact Carla at carla@carlalovesponies.com

This is Beckham!

Beckham was given sanctuary about 7 years ago when a breeder was attempting to breed a “pocket pig”.  Beckham runs around the stables with her partner-Wilbur!  Pig kisses to you!

Lila Rose came to Ferdinand’s Familia after years of breeding at a Thoroughbred Racehorse Ranch.  After a long-time untreated injury, the volunteers at Ferdinand’s Familia attempted to treat a very simple ailment.  Lila Rose was with Ferdinand’s Familia for only 3-1/2 months and touched everyone she met.
